Initiative One is a strategy for maximizing KU's information infrastructure through coordinated planning, purchasing and service delivery. KU's information infrastructure includes the technologies, applications, information resources, and associated human expertise necessary to advance a premier research university environment. Initiative One is a KU-wide initiative led by Information Services.
Develop effective and sustainable institution-wide practices for planning, purchasing and delivering information and technology resources. These practices will emphasize enterprise-wide solutions and reduce KU's overall costs through:
- Collaboration
- Coordination from the center
- Economies of scale
- Leveraged resource optimization
Initiative One will focus on core enterprise issues that require substantial institutional investment:
- Software purchasing and licensing
- Desktop and laptop purchasing
- Collaborative technologies like videoconferencing
- Identity management
- Network development
- Standardization and management of technology, services and resources
- Implementation and hosting of enterprise applications
- Information storage and back-up
- Document management / imaging
- Coordinated training and certification of technology specialists
- Network capacity-building, cabling upgrades and management
- Collaborative technologies like videoconferencing
- Enterprise perspective to inform IT planning and performance
- Improved service quality
- Enhanced operational performance and productivity
- Increased capacity for growth in research, teaching and service
- Increased opportunities to attract external funding
- Increased return on investment in information and IT resources
