Information Services Assessment Council Meeting Minutes

September 25, 2007

Present: Julie Fugett, Jill Glaser, Holly Mercer, Kathy Moore, Bill Myers (chair), Ryan Papesh, Marianne Reed, Sherry Umscheid

Absent: Jennifer Church-Duran, Darrell McNamara, Bruce Oliver, Rhonda Sharp, Rebecca Smith, James Tumlinson

Council discussed the recently released ECAR study of undergraduate students and use of IT. Thelma Simons, Ryan Papesh and Bill Myers agreed to review the findings and report back to the group on results that are most pertinent to understand and explore at KU.

Council discussed IS Kickoff and the input provided by guest speakers. Council agreed that continuing to find opportunities for staff to hear directly from stakeholders is useful. Holly Mercer, Marianne Reed and Bill Myers agreed to develop a plan to bring back to the Council and propose to IS leadership.

Julie Fugett described outreach efforts of the IT security office and interest in evaluating effectiveness of the security awareness program. Several strategies for assessing outreach were discussed. October is Cyber Security Awareness Month.

Council discussed the need for an outreach "leave behind" piece that could be used in almost any situation where there is face-to-face contact with a user or group of users. Members advocated highlights over comprehensiveness--maybe a "top 10" list.
