Orientation to Office of Institutional Research and Planning
Carrie Towns, assessment and survey coordinator, provided an orientation and review of OIRP functions and resources. She referenced several pages on the OIRP Web site, including the home page:
http://www2.ku.edu/~oirp/
and the mission statement:
http://www2.ku.edu/~oirp/mission.shtml
She also provided a handout that described upcoming institution-wide assessment activities.

Most OIRP assessment is done at the request of the Provost/central administration. OIRP is putting together a protocol to help guide faculty and staff who are conducting research of this type. We have an opportunity to suggest information and technology questions for the Student Perceptions Survey that will be conducted in Spring 2008. There is an hourly cost for OIRP services.

Review of assessment checklist and assessment request form
Members discussed the draft documents prepared by Thelma Simons and Jill Glaser with general agreement on the content. Members expressed sensitivity to creating too much procedural and documentation burden. The general sentiment was to keep the pre- and post- assessment reporting tools simple and consistent. Bill Myers agreed to do some editing of the documents and to recirculate to ISAC before mounting on the Web and otherwise distributing throughout IS.

Suggested agenda for next meeting, August 28
Members will be prompted to identify prospective assessment activities for the fall. Those mentioned include Tech Liaisons, Libraries service desks, instruction, and TechQual.
