Information Services Assessment Council Meeting Minutes

December 12, 2006

Present: Darrel McNamara, Bill Myers, Mandy Swygart-Hobaugh, Holly Mercer, John Stratton, Jill Glaser, Thelma Simon, Sherry Umscheid

Absent: Ryan Papesh

Myers summarized the meeting on December 4th in Anschutz 305 from 9-10am to discuss available survey tools for IS uses. The Kyou portal provides survey capabilities that are customizable, and it was concluded that for surveying KU affiliates, this would be the best first option to explore. Georgle Hosler would be the primary contact for surveys using the Kyou portal.

One of ISAC's January meetings will be reserved for a primer on data analysis by Carrie Towns.

Myers announced that the 12/14/06 IS Concept Review would be a presentation of the TechQual pilot. Some discussion ensued as to whether or not developing an in-house IT survey would be considered, should the TechQual implementation be delayed. Myers suggested we delay this discussion until we see how the TechQual pilot goes.

The council then discussed possible IS Concept Review topics for the months of February through May. The following were suggested: (1) discussion of how the libraries had used LibQual+ data to inform changes/operations; (2) discussion of the NTS/IT merger and whether/what kinds of formal/informal assessment had informed the decision; (3) discussion of data currently collected by various IS units/departments and how it might be used to assess services; (4) review of ISAC responsibilities and recent accomplishments in relation to its charge.

Further discussion ensued regarding the data currently collected by IS units (e.g., data automatically generated by systems, data collected for Association of Research Libraries membership, unit-generated data, etc.) and how ISAC should proceed in guiding the use of this data for assessment purposes. More discussion will be devoted to this topic at a later date.
