Information Services Assessment Council Meeting Minutes

November 14, 2006

Present: Sherry Umscheid, John Stratton, Thelma Simons, Jim Tumlinson, Jill Glaser, Holly Mercer, Mandy Swygart-Hobaugh, Ryan Papesh, Bill Myers (chair).

Absent: Darrell McNamara

Jill Glaser and Mandy Swygart-Hobaugh updated the council on the usability testing to take place Thursday and Friday on the redesigned Information Gateway. Discussion ensued about the purpose/content of the Information Gateway, the Gateway to Subject Based Resources Working Group's report and recommendations that guided the redesign (available on the library staff intranet, http://www.lib.ku.edu/staff/gsbr/), and how to approach usability testing.

Thelma Simons reported on the presentations she has been giving to promote IS services. Thus far, she has met with department chairs and directors of the College; she stated that more promotion, perhaps from upper management, is needed to increase reception of other constituents (schools) to these presentations. She also discussed needing to give the presentation in a venue where more time is dedicated to the audience's feedback on what services they use, how to improve services, etc.

The subcommittee looking at the LibQUAL+ comments reported on the general themes of the comments, and some discussion of next steps to further assess prominent issues ensued. At the next ISAC meeting, the council will consolidate recommendations for further assessment of the prominent issues identified in the LibQUAL+ comments. These recommendations will be forwarded to the Dean of Libraries.

Ryan Papesh proposed that the council give advice on developing a customer satisfaction survey for NTS, particularly focused on "moves, adds, and changes" facilitated by NTS. A subcommittee consisting of Ryan Papesh, Jim Tumlinson, and Thelma Simons was formed to explore the development of this assessment.

Bill Myers distributed some background information about the TechQUAL assessment project (see 10/24/2006 minutes for details).
