Earlier this month, Denise Stephens sent an update on IS professional development to IS-All. The text of the message included the following:
"...As most of you are aware and many have experienced, the Libraries and IT regularly provide professional development opportunities for their respective staffs, but many of these activities have relevance for the broader organization of IS. Professional development is important at an individual level, and also is essential to our effective function as an organization. In addition to the IS Professional Development Council, there are a number of existing groups and/or councils that provide professional resources, tools, and support to the staff of Information Services. These include the Libraries' Diversity Committee, Libraries' governance groups, IS Organizational Effectiveness Council, and IS Assessment Council to name a few.
"Within the next couple of weeks, I will be asking the leaders of those groups and councils to meet, discuss and recommend how we can best address the professional and organizational development needs of our organization."
The group indicated will be meeting soon to discuss the following questions. I would like for us to discuss these at our meeting tomorrow, and I will subsequently share the substance of our conversation with the other group when it meets. We all have had some experience serving on an IS-wide council, so I think our experience and perceptions might be useful for them to consider.
